Professor Izael Pereira Da Silva is a distinguished renewable energy expert with more than two decades of experience in research, academic leadership, and energy sector development. He serves as Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Strathmore University, where he also leads the UNESCO/UNITWIN as the Chair on Climate Change Resilience and Sustainability. Prof. Da Silva holds a Ph.D and MSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Parana, specialising in power systems and telecommunications.
As an accredited engineer and certified energy professional, he is a member of several international engineering bodies, including the Council of Engineers in Energy Transition (CEET), and is recognised as an Accredited Energy Auditor by the Kenya Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and a Certified Energy Manager by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). Additionally, he is a founding member of the Strathmore Energy Research Centre (SERC). His extensive collaborations span government ministries, development agencies and industry stakeholders across Africa and globally, where he has contributed to research, advisory work, and the strengthening of industry-academia linkages.
Prof. Da Silva’s research focuses on renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and adaptation, demand-side management and sustainable development. He has published widely in these fields and continues to play a key role in advancing evidence-based energy policy and innovation in Kenya and beyond.
